Installed in January to June 2027, the same battery would earn about A$407 less.

An estimate, not a quote. The certificate rules are from the Clean Energy Regulator, read 2 November 2026. The starting values are examples, and A$37 is not a published price. Payback here is the price after rebates divided by the yearly saving: it ignores battery wear, tariff changes and VPP payments. Eligibility depends on the equipment, the installer and your location.

FAQ

Battery rebate questions

How is the battery rebate worked out?

Under the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, a battery earns small-scale technology certificates based on usable capacity. The first 14 kWh earns full support, usable capacity above 14 and up to 28 kWh earns 60%, above 28 and up to 50 kWh earns 15%, and nothing beyond 50 kWh counts. The number of certificates per kWh depends on when it is installed. Each certificate is then worth its market price.

When does the rebate drop?

The certificates per kWh drop every six months on a published timetable: 6.8 from May to December 2026, 5.7 from January to June 2027, and down to 2.1 in the second half of 2030.

Does every battery qualify?

No. Each battery must be 5 to 100 kWh nominal and capable of joining a virtual power plant, and the inverter must qualify too. It must be installed by an installer accredited for batteries. Your installer should confirm it for your system.

Are there state rebates on top?

In some places. Western Australia offers up to A$1,300 for Synergy customers and A$3,800 for Horizon Power customers, with conditions including joining a virtual power plant and using a listed installer. Enter what applies to you.

Can installers put this on their own website?

Yes, for free. Fill in the form on this page and paste the code. It shows your name, your colour and a button to your quote page, and we don't collect your visitors' answers.
