WordPress, built and maintained like software.
WordPress runs a large share of the web and most of it is held together by plugins nobody has audited. We build custom themes, blocks and plugins, fix speed and security, and connect the site to AI through the interfaces WordPress 7.0 added.
What Gigabit does on WordPress.
Gigabit builds and maintains WordPress sites as software: custom block themes, purpose-built plugins, headless front ends, performance and security work, and migrations on and off the platform. Code goes through version control and review, not through the plugin editor on a live site.
WordPress 7.0, released in May 2026, put an AI client and an Abilities API into core. That gives agents a supported way to read and act on a site. We build on that instead of bolting on another chatbot plugin.
The WordPress work we take on.
The work that separates a site you can rely on from a pile of plugins.
Custom block themes
Themes built on the block editor and full-site editing, with a component set your editors can use without breaking the design.
Purpose-built plugins
One small plugin that does exactly what you need, written to WordPress coding standards, in place of three large ones that nearly do.
Headless front ends
A Next.js front end reading WordPress through the REST API or WPGraphQL, when you want editors to keep WordPress and visitors to get an application.
Performance
Core Web Vitals work that starts with measurement: caching, image handling, database queries and the plugins that are quietly responsible.
Security and upkeep
A plugin inventory, removal of anything abandoned, staged updates, backups that have been restored at least once, and least-privilege accounts.
Migrations
Onto WordPress from a legacy CMS, or off it to Webflow or a custom stack, with content, redirects and metadata carried over and checked.
WordPress 7.0 gave agents a front door. Most sites have not opened it.
The platform changed in 2026. Plugin-era AI advice is already out of date.
Built into the platform
Since version 7.0 the foundations for AI are part of WordPress core. The features that use them are mostly still plugins.
- An AI Client in core, with a Connectors screen for choosing which model provider the site uses.
- The Abilities API, a standard way for a plugin to declare what it can do so that an agent can call it.
- Image, title and alt-text generation, shipped as a separate official AI plugin rather than in core.
Abilities, agents and readable content
A site becomes useful to AI in two directions: agents acting on it, and assistants reading it accurately.
- Custom abilities that expose your own content types and workflows to an agent, with permissions enforced by WordPress.
- Editorial agents that draft, tag and interlink content for an editor to approve, never publishing on their own.
- A support or sales agent grounded in the site's content and connected to the CRM behind the forms.
- Clean structure, schema and internal linking, so search engines and AI assistants quote the site correctly.
Published prices, mapped to the job.
Every figure here is the same one on the pricing page. Nothing on this platform is quoted from a separate rate card.
A price marked “from” buys the base scope set out on the pricing page. Anything larger is quoted as a fixed price before work starts. Work with no natural end, such as ongoing development, is priced per engineer per month with no lock-in.
When WordPress is the right call, and when it is not.
- Content is the product: many authors, many content types, a publishing workflow.
- You want to own the code and the data and to host where you choose.
- You need something specific that an existing plugin ecosystem gets you most of the way to.
- It is a ten-page marketing site and the team wants to edit visually. Webflow or Framer will cost less to own.
- Nobody will own updates and security. An unmaintained WordPress site is a liability.
- The site is really a web application with a blog. Build the application and add a CMS to it.
Questions WordPress teams ask
How much does WordPress development cost with Gigabit?
A new WordPress site or rebuild starts at $6,000 fixed, covering up to eight page templates, CMS set-up, analytics, forms into your CRM and redirects from the old site. A migration onto or off WordPress starts at $7,000 fixed. Custom plugins, headless builds and ongoing upkeep are an embedded pod at $3,000–$7,500 per engineer per month. If you want the site, content and search visibility run together, that is Ascent, the twelve-month growth programme billed monthly with no upfront cost.
Which SEO plugin should we use on WordPress?
Any of the established ones will do the job: Yoast SEO, Rank Math, SEOPress and All in One SEO all handle titles, canonicals, sitemaps and schema. Pick one and remove the others, because two SEO plugins on one site produce duplicate tags. The plugin matters far less than page speed, a clean URL structure and content that answers the question.
What changed for AI in WordPress 7.0?
WordPress 7.0, released on 20 May 2026, added an AI Client and a Connectors screen to core, along with the Abilities API, which lets plugins declare actions that agents can call. Generating images, titles and alt text is handled by a separate official AI plugin. In practice it means an agent can now work with a WordPress site through supported interfaces.
Can you speed up a slow WordPress site?
Usually, and we measure before we touch anything. Slow WordPress sites are most often slow because of unoptimised images, missing caching, heavy page builders or a few plugins running expensive queries on every request. We fix what the measurements point to, and say so if the honest answer is a rebuild.
Will you take over a WordPress site someone else built?
Yes. We start with an inventory of themes, plugins and custom code, fix anything unsafe, and get the site into version control with a staging environment before changing how it works.
